In just 24 hours in 2020, 844 people were sheltered or supported in-person or remotely through Transition Housing Programs across BC. An Urban Sub-Working Group (USWG) developed this chapter of the National Action Plan to eliminate violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, in response to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The USWG includes current and former members of the urban community from all regions of Canada, with lived experience as survivors, family members, and/or experts in the urban reality and violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.
